Medieval times when they were primarily used for protection against the
weather. They evolved into a more finely crafted wardrobe item over time.
Royalty used them to represent their power and wealth by having them made
with rare exotic fabrics and furs affixed with gems and gold threading.
The
cape remains a fashionable wardrobe staple of most western societies. The
development of this wardrobe item into a symbol of religious or spiritual
significance, was obvious in the Pagan, Christian and Judaic belief systems.
Since many rituals and practices take place outdoors, the cape or cloak
with a hood was also beneficial against the chilled night air. Our Velvet

exciting and wearable style of capes we have ever seen! It is 3/4 length,
so it floats lovely below the knee in the front and drops slightly lower
in the back. The hood drapes loosely over the head with a slight peak.
Over 4 yards of beautiful, finest quality
embossable velvet and hours of hand work go into each of these made
to order capes.
